The Bergen based Norwegian piano jazz trio Erik Halvorsen trio was formed in February 2004, then as The Wedding. It has performed on a regular basis thereafter, for instance at the 2004 “Nattjazz” festival in Bergen. This concert was broadcast on Nrk P2 radio (Norwegian Broadcasting). Since then the trio has frequently done concerts, always with a good and responding audience.
Autumn 2004 the trio received tour support from “Fond For Lyd & Bilde”. Spring 2006 it got sponsored with є 2181, - from the Bergen city council to produce its own record. The trio’s material is composed by Erik Halvorsen.
In September 2006 the music was recorded & produced by Kato Ådland, working with Morten Skage as a technician in “Sporlyd studio” in Vaksdal (outskirts of Bergen). Kato has given the production an “indie touch” that colours the well known trio format. The producer is now working on short sound collages to put between the tracks as comments to the compositions & as mood adding elements.
About the musicians
Erik H. Halvorsen, piano, has worked as a state musician in the North of Norway from 1995 – February 2004). Then he moved to Bergen where he now plays with Sondre Lerche, Helén Eriksen, “Johan Sara group”, and others.
Ivar Thormodsæter, drums, is educated from the jazz conservatory in Trondheim. He worked together with Erik Halvorsen as a state musician up north 2001 – 2004. He now lives in Oslo where he is seen regularly in both pop/rock as well as in jazz groups. He plays amongst others with ”Paperboys” and Even ”magnet” Johansen.
Magne Thormodsæter, bass, is educated from the jazz conservatory in Trondheim. Over the years he has become a much used musician in different bands in Bergen & he has a good grip on the different genres. He got awarded the ”Vossa jazz price” in 2005. He plays regularly with ”Bergen Big band”, ”Svein Olav Herstad trio”, and in various other settings.
